Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps HBCU/MI Internship Program
The Department of the Navy (DoN) Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) - Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG Corps) Summer Internship provides a paid opportunity to gain valuable legal experience, academic credit, and greater insight into life as a Navy judge advocate. As a Navy JAG Corps intern, you'll be assigned to a legal command/staff and gain experience in traditional Navy JAG Corps practice areas such as: military justice (criminal prosecution and defense), legal assistance (providing general legal advice to Sailors and their families), and command services (advising military commanders and their staffs).
The JAG Corps HBCU/MI Program's objectives are to:
- Offer students the opportunity to gain real life experience in the legal profession,
- Encourage students to pursue a career in the Navy JAG Corps,
- Provide students an opportunity to gain an edge in the job market, establish networking opportunities, and gain professional confidence, and
- Raise student awareness of the Navy's competencies in the legal profession.
Eligibility Requirements:
All student participants must be a United States citizen of good moral character; younger than 42 years of age at time you would begin active duty if selected as a judge advocate candidate*; and be a law student with at least one semester of school completed at the time of application, enrolled in an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school deemed a Minority Serving Institution (MSI)** by the U.S. Department of Education.
